Wild Wikis

Had a look at the suggested wikis for this week and like the idea that any member of the community can go in and add or edit, making it a real collaborative affair. Wikis could be useful in the library, such as in the form of subject guides where people can add resources they've found useful or allowing students to post reviews for books they're read, enabling other users to get a better idea of whether the book will suit their needs.

Gimme a feed

Well, I now know what an RSS feed is... and have added several to my bloglines account! Originally thought that we would be adding them to our blogs, not realising that we had to go into our bloglines account to access them. After reading some other blogs I have since realised that this is possible, however I'm not quite sure how that happens yet! I like the idea of being able to open your blog and have them there, as this would be much more convenient and save some time.

I have also set up a feed from the EBSCO database. I can imagine students finding this quite useful when they need to research information on a particular subject... and would have loved this back in my study days when doing Lit reviews etc. I still need to 'play' some more to find out how to make the most of all the information I'm getting from my RSS feeds and maybe narrow it down a little.

Here's to something new...

Well, here it is... my first blog posting. Like some have said, I found the hardest part was choosing my blog name and the template! I'm looking forward to working through the exercises to find out about this whole blogging business, which is completely new to me.
